If anyone is struggling to find a good stocking stuffer this Christmas season, the Marengo County Historical Society has something any local resident or history buff would be sure to enjoy.
“Robert Hudson’s Demopolis” features 324 pages of photos taken by Hudson from 1907 through the late 1950s in Demopolis. Hudson was born in Demopolis in May of 1885 and passed away in May of 1973.
The photos in the book range from different historical events in Demopolis from the early to mid-20th Century to more artistic photos. It includes the first car in Demopolis, photos from the flu epidemic of 1918, the Rooster Auction that built Rooster Bridge, the dedication of Demopolis Lock and Dam and more.
The books are available at the Canebrake Craft Corner at Bluff Hall for $35. Books can also be ordered and shipped by calling the Craft Corner at (334) 289-9644. The Craft Corner is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
