Velma Lee Phillips

Velma Lee Phillips, 87, of Robertsdale, and a former resident of Sandflat, died Thursday, March 19, at her home.
She was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Sweet Water. She was a former nurse and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Demopolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy M. Phillips; parents, Erma and Alex Strickland; daughter, Opal Booen; son-in-law, Wes Hedrick; grandsons, Tony Hoven and Mike Hedrick; sisters, Mary Ethridge and Eyvonne Stokes; and many loved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She is survived by five children, Gail Hedrick of Demopolis; Ronnie (Sharon) Phillips of Fairbanks, Alaska, Ruth (Billy) Symon of Demopolis, Julie (Jim) Dailey of Robertsdale, and Dean Booen of Demopolis; four sisters, Nell Pugh of Bashi, Shirley Stokley of Semmes, Pat Baggett of Brewton, and Alice (Emmett) Craven of Winnsboro, S.C.; brother, Dan Strickland of Wildwood, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Flora Dean Gates, Molly Jo Phillips, and Vonciel Phillips; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 25, from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9-11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Thursday, March 26, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tommy Carr and the Rev. Benny Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.
Active pallbearers will be Ken Dale Hoven, Dennis Booen, Chad Hedrick, Billy Symon, Nick Symon, Aaron Thornton and Paul Massey.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Demopolis.
