The Demopolis Rotary Club will host its 42nd annual charity golf tournament Friday, May 1 at the Demopolis Country Club. The club will also host a steak dinner and social Thursday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m.
The tournament will feature two different divisions, a four-ball division and a two-man scramble division. Each division is limited to the first 24 paid teams. Tee time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
Rotary Club President Jay Reynolds said registration has been slow, but he expects it to pick up.
“At this time, signups have been fairly slow compared to years past, but we’ve had a big pickup this week and expect it to fill up next week,” Reynolds said.
The entry fee is $90 per person, and it includes a steak dinner Thursday night, lunch on Friday, 18 holes of golf, hole in one prizes on all par three holes, refreshments on the course, a free practice round Thursday and gifts and prizes.
“We have a $10,000 hole in one prize on all par three holes,” Reynolds said. “There is some competition there, and it is pretty competitive.”
While the tournament is all about having fun on the green, it is also about giving back, Reynolds said.
“We’ve averaged over the last nine years right at $9,000 in profits from our tournament,” Reynolds said.
“We give half of those proceeds every year to Camp ASCAA, which is a camp for children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. The rest of the money goes to local charities in the Demopolis area.”
Since the tournament’s inception, Reynolds estimated over $100,000 in donations just to camp ASCAA.
“[These organizations] depend on our funding to survive,” Reynolds said. “This is the best fundraiser we have, and we try to keep them funded.”

The deadline to enter is Tuesday, April 28.
