The Demopolis Police Department says most roads in the city are passable at this time. However, Police Chief Tommie Reese said Hwy. 43 North is still very slick due to icy conditions and that Jackson Street has been closed.
“We ask that motorists use extreme caution and to slow down,” Reese said.
Police responded to two weather-related vehicle accidents during the night, one on the Rooster Bridge and another on Hwy. 80 East near CR 2. There were no injuries in either of those accidents.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, all lanes of Interstate 59 in Tuscaloosa County are impassible as of 7 a.m. Troopers are working closely with National Guard personnel to assist stranded motorist. Motorists are encouraged to stay off the roadway.
