MLK Scholarship program to recognize recipients

The public is invited to join a celebration to congratulate 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship recipients in Marengo County.
On Sunday, Jan. 15, The King Unity Organization will highlight the accomplishments of 2017 King Scholars as the group gathers with the Christian Chapel Church, 500 West Decatur St., Demopolis, for recognition of recipients during morning worship service at 10:30 a.m. After worship a reception will be held in the fellowship hall.
Awardees will also be featured Sunday evening, Jan. 15, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 614 East Jackson St. in Demopolis. The annual program commemorating Dr. King’s memory will begin at 6 p.m.
On Monday, Jan. 16, on the MLK Holiday, at 11 a.m., the celebration will continue with The South Marengo County Ministerial Alliance. Local churches and organizations will convene at Rock Babylon Church, Hwy. 43 South, in Dixon’s Mills.
The King Scholarship fundraising effort will culminate with a Tenth Anniversary Celebration and Birthday Dinner/Soirée given in honor of foundation founder, Annie D.B. Robertson. The celebration will be held March 4, 6 p.m., at the Demopolis Civic Center. Tickets can be purchased from board members and are also available at AJ’s Men’s Store in Demopolis. Donation costs are $25 or greater for an individual ticket and $250 for a table for families, churches or other groups and organizations. All proceeds benefit the King Scholarship Foundation.
