Boy Scouts to present inaugural Hugh Lloyd Award

The Boy Scouts of America will be celebrating the achievements of Hugh A. Lloyd through the presentation of the Hugh A. Lloyd Lifetime Scouting Achievement Award.

Through the efforts of dedicated volunteers and the support of the communities and religious organizations in every neighborhood across the Boy Scouts of America’s Prairie District, the public is invited to the Inaugural Hugh A. Lloyd Lifetime Scouting Achievement Award Luncheon on March 9 at the Demopolis Civic Center. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will include: a guest speaker, Dreamland BBQ, and the presentation of the new award. Tickets will not be sold to the event. Those who would like information about attending the event should contact Roland Lewis at 205-301-4963 or by email at roland.lewis@scouting.org.

According to the a press release about the event, the award is being named in honor of Lloyd “for his generosity and dedicated commitment to the Prairie District of the Black Warrior Council, BSA.” It also states the award “will be presented to an individual or group that exemplifies the ideals of Hugh A. Lloyd and dedicated generosity and support of scouting.”

The Prairie District in comprised of scouts in Marengo, Hale, Greene and Sumter counties.

District Attorney Greg Griggers is serving as the chairman of the inaugural event.

Check-in for the event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the luncheon to be held at noon. This will be the Prairie District’ of the Black Warrior Council’s premier fundraising event.

Guest speaker will be former Livingston University (now the University of West Alabama) head football coach Jim King.
