American Legion Post 41 has selected two Demopolis High School students who will be sponsored for this year’s Boys State program.
American Legion posts have sponsored rising high school senior boys to attend Boys State for many years, and that tradition continues today.
This year, Post 41 has selected Tristan Mullen and Anthony Galvan, both from DHS, to attend Boys State, which will be held on the University of Alabama campus from May 28 through June 3.
Young men attending Boys State will be organized into cities, with each city electing a mayor, councilmen, and other city positions. Certain individuals from each city will throw their hats into the ring to run for state offices such as governor, attorney general and other statewide posts.
There will be many learning opportunities for the boys in attendance, such as extemporaneous speeches, forums, and plenty of sports.
American Legion Post Commander Tom Boggs presented Mullen and Galvan with checks that will be used to finance the trip.
