Wintry mix in West Alabama possible Sunday

According to the National Weather Service, a light mixture of rain, freezing rain, and ice pellets are possible on Sunday, mainly between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

A very cold air mass will be in place across the western and southwestern portions of central Alabama Saturday night. Temperatures are forecast to fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s Sunday morning. Light precipitation will likely move into west Alabama shortly after sunrise Sunday. The mixture of wintry precipitation will last through the morning hours, and taper off from north to south during the afternoon. A winter weather advisory may be necessary once the event draws closer, according to a NWS statement.

The NWS said the main concern is the potential for freezing rain. Even though amounts are forecast to be light, any accumulation of ice on roadways can be hazardous. Slick spots could develop on elevated surfaces, like bridges and overpasses.
