Nella Ruth Conway (nee Price), formerly of Linden, passed from this life in Nashville, Tennessee, on Feb. 27, 2019, at the age of 92.
Mrs. Conway was born on April 17, 1926, in Clarke County, Mississippi to Robert Bailey Price and Drunella Redden Price.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice E. Conway; her parents; five sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by her children: Betty Hannah (Travis Hoggle), Mary Susan “Sonny” Estes (Dean, deceased), Joann Thompson (Bennie), Evelyn Hicks (James), Mark Conway (Patty), and Malcolm Conway (Gaby); 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; her dear friend, Irene Harris; and many other friends.
Graveside services were held on Monday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at Linden Memorial Park.
Mrs. Conway received her registered nursing diploma from Rush Memorial Hospital in 1948. She and Maurice moved to Linden in 1952. She was the head nurse at the opening of Linden Nursing Home and worked for many years at Gulf States Paper Corporation.
She was a founding member of Linden Church of Christ, where she served faithfully, teaching Sunday school and translating songs and sermons for the hearing impaired. She worked as a nurse volunteer at Indian Springs Youth Camp in Oakman, Alabama, taught crocheting in the after school program at Linden Elementary, and also volunteered with the RSVP senior volunteers. Many people were blessed by her generosity and kindness.
Mrs. Conway moved to Somerby of Mobile in 2014 and celebrated her 90th birthday there in 2016. She moved to Barton House in Nashville in 2018 where she was lovingly cared for by the staff and Avalon Hospice in addition to her family.
