Barbara Bugg Compton went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 14, 2020, at the age of 88. She passed away peacefully at home in Nanafalia, Alabama.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Westbrook “Buck” Compton Jr. and her son, Albert Westbrook “Al” Compton, III.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Compton Taylor (Wes) and Jan Compton Holley (Wood); her grandchildren, Molly Crawford Griffin (Adam), Thomas Alexander Crawford (Maryann), Catherine Compton Holley, Wesley Coleman Taylor and Margaret Compton Taylor; her great-grandchildren, Adam Vincent Griffin Jr., Crawford Westbrook Griffin, Evelyn Kate Price and Henry Thomas “Buck” Crawford; sister-in-laws, Joyce Compton Harrington, Rosmund Compton and Caroline Brock Bugg; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was born in Trion, Georgia to Robert Watkins Bugg and Nell Adcock Bugg on Oct. 6, 1931. She graduated from Auburn University. She married Buck Compton on June 19, 1954, and they were married for 62 years. Barbara loved the Lord and taught Bible Classes for many years throughout the states of Alabama and Mississippi. She especially enjoyed teaching her Sunday school class at her beloved Cornerstone Church. She taught high school history and physical education for many years in Choctaw and Marengo counties.
Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 17, beginning at 10 a.m. with the memorial service following at 11 a.m. at Nanafalia Baptist Church followed by a graveside service.
