The medical license for Dr. Judy Travis has been fully re-instated with the exception of the ability to prescribe scheduled drugs.

The Demopolis doctor’s license was originally suspended in the spring of 2019 following a complaint filed by the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners. Following a hearing in July, her license was placed on probation pending a neurophysciatric evaluation.

“I have undergone that evaluation and scored in the 98th percentile, which is very good,” Travis said.

Travis has also secured health provider status to accommodate Medicare and Medicaid patients. “I can see these patients with no problems,” she said.

Travis adds that she can prescribe most any drugs that her patients would likely need. “I cannot prescribe anything on the schedule list, which would include opiates, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines.”

Travis still seeks clarification regarding the limitations placed on her ability to prescribe medications. She said that as a hospice director she is exempt from registering as a dispensing physician for certain drugs, something she said the ASBME did not take into consideration in their decision.
