In response to the increased number of positive COVID-19 cases in Sumter County, the City of Livingston has initiated nightly curfews that will be ongoing until further notice.
According to the Livingston Police Department, the curfew will begin each night at 9 p.m. and continue through 5 a.m. “The purpose of the curfew is to prevent social gatherings in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” according to a statement from the City of Livingston. “The Livingston Police Department encourages citizens to observe this curfew and remain indoors during these hours unless you are going to and from work or have a valid reason to be outdoors.”
Livingston law enforcement officials said they would be pulling motorists over and approaching those on foot that are out during the curfew hours to ask their purposes for being outdoors. Failure to comply with the order will be punishable by a fine of up to $500 and/or up to 180 days in the municipal jail, officials said.
