The Women of Faith hosted a mobile food distribution on Thursday, April 30, with the help of the Demopolis Police and Fire Department. They were able to serve approximately 500 people.
The Women of Faith organization has been giving out food to the community since 2017. With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing people to stay at home, they knew that more people would need meal packages to rely on. The food was provided by the Selma Area Food Bank who has been supporting the organization since its start in 2017.
With the coronavirus continuing to spread, people were to remain in their cars to prevent person-to-person contact. Police officers and firefighters wore gloves and masks while loading the bags of food into waiting cars.
Dillard said that the food drive was a success and that she is grateful to everyone who helped put it all together.
“Women of Faith sends a heartfelt thank you to all who volunteered in making our distribution run smoothly. We greatly appreciated the monetary donations received; it helps us to continue helping the community.”
Dillard also gives her thanks to Police Chief Rex Flowers for organizing the mobile drive through with the fire department.
Anyone who wishes to make a donation can make checks or money orders payable to Women of Faith Attention: Willie Dillard; P.O. Box 5; Demopolis, AL 36732. Dillard may also be contacted at 718-877-0165.
