The Demopolis City Council held a very brief meeting last Wednesday, Dec. 7 and discussed only one action item. The council moved its regular Thursday meeting to Wednesday to avoid conflict with COTR activities.

At the Nov. 18 meeting, the council approved a request to vacate a portion of Desounettes Avenue. The decision required a formal resolution from the Council, and was approved last Wednesday.

Mayor Woody Collins commended Two Rivers Lumber Company for purchasing the 32-foot inflatable Santa that was set up in Public Square last week as part of COTR.

Mayor Woody Collins and Two Rivers Lumber Company worked together to bring the 32-foot tall Santa to Demopolis for COTR. The inflatable was first displayed in Public Square before it was moved to the Civic Center.

Collins also publicly thanked the city employees for the work they’ve done with the Christmas decorations around the city.

“They have done a wonderful, wonderful job on this, and they have all stepped up to help,” said Collins. “I have received nothing but positive comments from the community about the way they handled the Christmas decorations.”

The Demopolis City Council meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at 5:15 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
