Lewey Sidney Horn

Lewey Sidney Horn of Tuscaloosa and Linden, Alabama, age 81, passed away on February 16, 2022.  Lewey was born May 28, 1940 to Sidney and Veula Horn.  He was the oldest of 4 children including Nancy, Randy and Pam.  He graduated from Talladega High School where he was senior class president.  From there he earned a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alabama and eventually an MBA from the University of South Alabama. He worked as a quality control engineer in the paper industry and taught for several years as well.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army in Germany, Equador and Vietnam, where he was wounded in combat and received a Purple Heart.  When he retired as a Lt. Colonel, he had more flight hours in a Huey helicopter than any other pilot in Alabama.  He was proud of his service, as is his family.

He married Sylvia Gayle Williams on September 3, 1960. They had two daughters, Stacy Cyd (John Johnston) and Kelly RaVan (Keith Kirkham) who adore them.  He was a faithful husband and father as well as a devoted Christian.  This southern gentleman loved the Lord, and he loved to sing southern gospel music.  Honestly, he loved to sing anything!  Sometimes he would make up extra verses as he went, just to keep singing.  He had a gentle way with children which led to more than 20 years of teaching 3-year-old Sunday School.  He never turned down the opportunity to hold and “converse with” a little one.  But his own grandchildren held the most special place in his heart….John Mark Boland, Katherine Sidney Boland Bissey (Steven Bissey) and Jacob Andrew Boland.

He loved nature and ALL things Alabama….football, basketball, softball, literally anything.  In his spare time he loved to hunt, fish, golf, play tennis or softball, again literally anything.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Horn Kirk.  He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and kindness that will live on his wife, children and grandchildren who love him dearly.

Funeral services were held at Linden Baptist Church on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 1:30 pm with Dr. Billy Harris officiating. Burial followed at Linden Memorial Park.

Pallbearers include Keith Kirkham, John Johnston, John Mark Boland, Jacob Boland, Steven Bissey and Joseph Formwalt.

Honorary pallbearers include Randy Horn, Mark Crocker, Kendall Cochran, Johnny Arnett, Billy Kirkham, Jimmy Finn, Gerald Roberts, Glenn Williams, Mike Griffin, Carey Horn, Jerry Horn, and George Horn.
