2 Rivers Nutrition has been named the March Business of the Month by the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce. It is located at 1033 US Hwy 80 W.

2 Rivers Nutrition has been in business in Demopolis for around two years, and is currently owned by Patrick Akins who took ownership around six months after the business opened.

At 2 Rivers Nutrition, one can find meal replacement shakes, sugar free herbal energy teas, and specialty protein drinks. Akins said that over the last five or six years, these types of drinks have been gaining popularity around the south, particularly in Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas. The drinks act as a healthy alternative to things like soda and energy drinks.

“The shakes they server are plant based proteins, and they’re meant to fill you up. The shakes have 250 calories, 24 grams of protein, and a little bit of sugar,” said Akin. “Our drinks are made with Stevia, which is a sugar substitute and doctors recommend it for people with diabetes.”

Other popular items on the menu are the different types of teas. The loaded teas have caffeine in them, but it is not like the caffeine found in energy drinks. The loaded teas are made with green tea, black tea, and oolong tea, and they have no sugar in them. The specialty teas have protein in them and they act as “snack drinks” to give someone a boost of energy in the middle of the day. The third drink is a mixture of a loaded tea and a specialty tea. This drink doesn’t have as much caffeine or protein as the other drinks, but a person still gets the vitamins and nutrients they need.

“Our teas don’t have sugar in them, so you don’t have that big crash like you would if you drink a Monster drink or something that is loaded with sugar,” said Akin. “Our drinks make you feel good and give you a boost of energy for the rest of the day.”

To keep things fresh and exciting, 2 Rivers Nutrition does holiday drinks to keep their menu changing and keep people coming back to try something new. For March, menu items are centered around St. Patrick’s Day with creations like the Leprechaun loaded tea, the Irish Cream meal replacement shake, and the Shamrock loaded tea.

Akin said he is excited to be the business of the month and that he didn’t expect to be chosen for the award.

“It’s exciting and it just tells us that we’re working right and doing the right thing. Our hard work is paying off and people are noticing what we’re doing,” said Akin. “We try to give back as much as we can for the community and help out when we can.”

2 Rivers Nutrition is open Monday through Friday from 6:45 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. On Saturdays they are open from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and are closed on Sundays.
