Sweet Water Bulldogs get big Homecoming victory

The Sweet Water Bulldogs finished off their Homecoming week with a big 57-0 blowout win over the A.L. Johnson Eagles last Friday, September 16. The Bulldogs took control of the game early and scored most of their points in the first half.

The Bulldogs’ first score was a safety after the Eagles punt attempt was blocked. With only a few minutes gone off the clock, the Bulldogs had a 2-0 lead.

Lashon Young was the first to score for the Bulldogs when he returned a kickoff 58-yards for the touchdown. The PAT kick by David Etheridge was good, giving the Bulldogs a 9-0 lead with 8:37 to go in the first quarter.

Jonathan Morris added to the Bulldog lead next when he ran 46-yards for the score with 4:30 left in the first quarter. Etheridge’s extra point attempt was good, making the score 16-0.

A few minutes later, Bulldog quarterback Timothy Kelley completed a 10-yard pass to Lashon Young. The PAT kick was no good, making the score 22-0 with 3:36 left in the first quarter.

Elliot Lucy got in on scoring for the Bulldogs when he ran 37-yards for the touchdown. Etheridge’s PAT kick was good, upping the Bulldog’s score to 29-0 with 1:14 to go in the first quarter.

The next score for Sweet Water came when Nate Norris completed a 40-yard to David Etheridge with 9:20 to play in the second quarter. The point after kick by Etheridge was no good, making the score 35-0.

Another costly mistake for the Eagles came when Earl Lewis was caught in the end zone for another safety for the Bulldogs with 8:22 in the second quarter, making the score 37-0.

Ethan Carr scored the Bulldogs’ next touchdown on a 59-yard run with 7:46 left in the second quarter. Etheridge’s extra point attempt was no good, leaving the score as 43-0.

The last score of the first half for Bulldogs happened when Atravious Gaines ran it in from two-yards out with 0:28 left in the half. Jonathan Morris’s PAT kick was good, and allowed the Bulldogs to take a 50-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The last score of the game was on a 48-yard run by Zyreonne Hamilton with 4:06 left in the third quarter. The PAT kick was good, making the final score of the game 57-0.

This Friday, September 23, the Sweet Water Bulldogs get a mid-season break before taking on county rival the Linden Patriots on September 30.
