Sweet Water Bulldogs defeat St. Luke’s Episcopal Wildcats 30-14

The Sweet Water Bulldogs took on the St. Luke’s Episcopal Wildcats in their last regular season game this past Friday, October 21. The Bulldogs came away with a 30-14 victory and will take a 6-2 record into the 1A State Playoffs on November 4.

The first quarter of the game passed by with no scores from either team. But midway through the second quarter, Jonathan Morris found an opportunity to get the Bulldogs on the scoreboard first, and ran 3-yards for the touchdown. The PAT kick by Evan Dunn was no good, giving the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead with 5:09 to go in the first half.

Not to be outdone, the Wildcats managed to get on the board just the first half came to a close when quarterback Brandon Cooks completed a 16-yard pass to Percy Laduna just as the game clock hit zero. The extra point kick by Brody Hale was good, giving the Wildcats a 1-point lead over the Bulldogs at 7-6.

In the only score of the third quarter, Elliot Lucy made a 2-yard run for the Bulldogs with 6:05 to go in the quarter. Lucy also ran in the two-point conversion to put the Bulldogs up 14-7.

The Wildcats next and final score of the game was another pass from Cooks to Laduna, this time for 24-yards with 10:39 left in the game. Hale’s PAT kick was good, tying the game at 14.

The next Sweet Water score was a 1-yard run by Delvontae Lucy with 7:09 left in the fourth quarter. Elliot Lucy’s second two-point conversion run of the night was good, upping the Bulldogs score to 22-14.

Lashon Young scored the last touchdown of the game on a 21-yard run with 1:24 remaining on the clock. Morris’s two-point conversion run was good, giving the Bulldogs a 30-14 win over the Wildcats.

This Friday, October 28, the Bulldogs will get a break before returning on November 4 for the first round of the playoffs.
