Demopolis Board of Education holds brief meeting

The Demopolis City Board of Education met in a regularly scheduled meeting on June 22. The meeting was fairly brief with a light agenda.

Representative A.J. McCampbell spoke before the Board with updates from the Alabama Legislature regarding grant opportunities for the district.

The Board approved the Financial Report for May 2023, as presented by CSFO Nelson. Carolyn Moore gave the motion to approve the financials that included a second from Olen Kerby. The report included the monthly financial statements and cash balance/bank reconciliations. The motion carried unanimously.

Board Chairman Harris Hurst yielded the floor to CSFO Nelson who recommended the personnel report as presented. Kerby motioned to approve the report and was seconded by Moore with a unanimous approval.

Bobby Armstead moved to approve the Inventory Disposition Items as presented. Betsy Stephens voiced the second, with unanimous approval.

A motion by Kerby to approve updates to Standards-Based Grading Policy for the first grade. Armstead motioned for the second, which drew unanimous approval by all.

Upon recommendation by Superintendent Tony Willis, Graduation Requirements for ninth and tenth grades for the Classes of 2026 and 2027, were approve by a motion from Armstead and a second from Kerby. The motion carried unanimously.

A motion by Armstead to approve the Job Description for a 10-month position for Director of Impact 180 drew a second from Kerby. The motion carried unanimously.

Graphics Specifications for the DHS Cafeteria were recommended by the Superintendent as presented. A motion by Moore was followed by a second from Armstead for unanimous approval.

A motion from Kerby to approve an updated contract for CSFO Nelson drew a second from Armstead. Board Attorney Braswell will draw it up and bring it back to the Board for final approval. The motion carried unanimously.

A motion from Stephens to approve the DHS Track Cross-Country Team to DeSoto State Park-XC Summer Camp, July 24-27, 2023, drew a second from Kerby with unanimous approval.

Under the Superintendent’s Report, Willis reported that construction on the baseball dugouts have been completed, but are waiting on the final inspection. DHS construction is in full mode with DMS and USJ to start soon.
