The Demopolis Board of Education held its July 10 meeting at the new multipurpose building at Westside Elementary. The meeting was brief with a light agenda up for discussion.

Under the Superintendent’s report, Tony Willis remarked on the new multipurpose building and its amenities such as the design and color scheme, and the basketball goals that can be raised and lowered electronically.

The projects at U.S. Jones, the middle school, and the high school are moving along as planned and aren’t expected to fringe on the beginning of the school year. However, Willis said the school system will be prepared for any delays that may occur. The board has also been assured that restroom facilities will be operational on the first day of school.

Willis said that summer learning has been a success at each campus. The elementary schools have moved have moved on to summer enrichment, and the middle school and high school works where as students complete their coursework, they can be finished.

The school system has gotten its preliminary ACAP scores back for individual students. Willis said that the scores could likely be better than the scores from last year. The system will no for certain once the state officially gives the school its scores.

Under inventory dispositions, a table at U.S. Jones has been deemed “beyond repair” by Bedsole and Shipman. The Board approved disposing of the table.
