Johnnie Sanders and Loretta Henderson represented West Central Alabama AHEC at a recent  COVID-19 testing event held at the Theo Ratliff Center in Demopolis. Despite the decline in positive COVID cases, the agency continues testing in an effort to promote awareness of the virus and offer vaccination assistance.

The testing is free to the public and West Central Alabama AHEC encourages community members to stop by and get the test while also learning valuable resources to help them as they continue to navigate this public health challenge.

Ms. Rosie London, Executive Director, states the importance of residents having free access to the COVID-19 testing. Education and prevention are resources that the communities need and West Central Alabama AHEC uses community based organizations and community health workers (CHW) to deliver those tools and resources.

Not only do residents receive free COVID-19 testing, but they also receive the results as soon as 30 minutes for Rapid PCR testing. Residents also receive education and prevention resources on various vaccines and a resource guide that helps them identify other available resources that may be able to assist them. For example, the resource guides identify where residents can get assistance with their electricity bill.

“We are excited that we are able to provide these valuable resources to the Black Belt,” said Rosie London, Executive Director, West Central Alabama AHEC.
