Marengo Panthers get season opening win over Washington County

The Marengo Panthers won their season opening game against the Washington County Bulldogs 14-0.

The majority of the first half saw no points, but the Panthers found an opening with 1:32 left in the second quarter to get on the board. Jeremiah Bouler completed at 18-yard pass to Michael James to put the Panthers up 6-0. The two-point conversion pass from Bouler to Jamann McCaskey was good, giving the Panthers an 8-0 lead.

The only other score of the game was a kickoff return by Bouler who ran it 85-yards to the endzone. The Panthers went for another two-point conversion, but it failed, leaving the score at 14-0.

Michael James had 70 rushing yards on the night, Toriano Kelly had 20 rushing yards, Jamarcus Battle had 27 rushing yards, and O’Nealius Norwood had 38 rushing yards.

On defense, Javien Westbrook had one tackle for a loss, Michael James had six tackles for three losses, Kewuan Sanders had eight tackles for five losses, Jamann McCaskey had six tackles for three losses.

Jamarcus Battle had one tackle for a loss, Omar Autrey had 4 tackles, Jamarcus Bouler had 8 tackles for two losses, Toriano Kelly had five tackles for three losses, Centell Bruno, Jamarion Allen, and Jordan Moore all had one tackle, O’Nealius Norwood had two tackles, and Jeremiah Bouler had five tackles.

The Panthers now sport a 1-0 record. They take the field next when they travel to St. Luke’s Episcopal for a non-league challenge on Friday, September 1. Marengo will meet a Wildcats team coming off a 41-0 non-league win over Fruitdale.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
