Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Freda Reynolds

The first lighthouse in America was built in 1716 on Little Brewster Island in Boston, Massachusetts. Before lighthouses were designed, coal or wood fires would lead the sailing ships safely home.

Anyone who lives in the south knows the vengeance of the sea. Hurricanes with upwards of sometimes 90 mph will tear down and destroy anything in her path. The storms on the ocean are treacherous, dangerous and blinding. One can see how hard it would be to find the shore with its rugged cliffs and rock. Lighthouses help them weather the storms.

So, it is in life. We all need a light to guide us through the storms of life. We never know when that storm will appear suddenly without warning. If we know “the Light” we can rest in the assurance that He will guide us safely through.

John 8:12 Jesus says, 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”

John 8:12 New King James Version

Not only is He the Light, but He instructs us to be lights to the world.

14“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:14 NIV – “You are the light of the world.”

I encourage you this week to follow “The Light” and to be the light in your city. In these tough times, we need each other.
