The scriptures are the inspired or God-breathed word of God.
Peter states, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20-21)
In other words the scriptures are not the recording of the men’s opinions, but rather a message from God Himself.
In Romans 4:3 Paul asks, “For what does the scripture say…”
That should be our first question, whether we are talking about all matters religious, or simply about how to live our lives. God has given us an “owner’s manual” for life itself. It tells us how to successfully live life, how to worship and serve Him, and how to get to heaven.
Paul encourages the young preacher Timothy with these words, “But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:14-17).
God’s word is complete. It sets forth the hope that we have in Jesus. It provides us with the tools we need to truly find the answers to the biggest questions of life.
If we listen to the scriptures, they will ultimately take us to the cross and the great sacrifice that was made there for us. We simply must listen to the scriptures – they will make us whole!
