Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Birthdays! I celebrated another birthday last week. It was great; I am blessed beyond measure.

Birthdays always give us a time to reflect on our lives. The creator of the Apple giant Steve Jobs has said, ”The most precious resource we have is time.” It is important to look back to see how far we have come in life. But we also need to consider what the next chapter might look like.

The poet Khali Gibran says it best, “Yesterday is but today’s memory and tomorrow is today’s dream.” We only have today! Tomorrow is not promised. James 4:14 reminds us,” You do not know what tomorrow will bring.” Colossians 4:5b further says we are to “make the best use of your (our) time.”

We have a clock in our den that is battery operated. When I first hung the clock on the wall, my hubby hated it. The tick, tick, tick annoyed him. The noise, the constant, always ticking sound invaded the air. Eventually, the rhythm of the beat becomes part of the background and he hardly notices it.

Such is life! Things that annoy us seem to become just another noise in our lives. Time marches on. We look up and we ask “Where did the time go?”

God’s word is always our best guide of how we are to spend our days! He has created, “everything in its season, a time for every matter under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

Someday we will be accountable for our time and actions. Time will continue to march on until God’s appointed time. Will we be ready? Psalm 90:12” Teach us to number our days so that we might gain a heart of wisdom.”
