Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If you and your family love football season, chances are you have entertained guests for a watch party or tailgate. These parties often involve a lot of cheering and a lot of different party foods. Me and my family are huge Alabama fans and we always have a special menu for the big games like the season opener or the Iron Bowl. Our menu usually consists of Rotel dip, pigs in a blanket, chips, and drinks.

But every now and then we switch it up and make homemade chicken tenders. And by “we” I mean my mom as she’s usually the one doing the cooking. Homemade chicken tenders are fairly easy to make and are often better than fast food. This week’s recipe is for homemade tenders with honey mustard that I think a lot of people might like.

For the honey mustard, it is best to prepare it at least one day ahead so that the flavors have time to blend. It has two ingredients.

1/2 cup of honey

1/4 cup of Dijon mustard

For the chicken tenders, you will need boneless chicken breasts that are available in most grocery stores. A bag of frozen skinless tenders is also an option as it might be cheaper than buying a whole chicken breast. Needed ingredients are below.

4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts (four ounces each)

1 cup of all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/4 teaspoon of pepper

3/4 cup of milk

1 cup of vegetable oil for frying

Preparation: Cut chicken in 1/2 x 2-inch strips. Mix flour, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Dip chicken in milk and then roll in flour mixture to coat on all sides. Place chicken on foil or wax paper.

Pour 1/4 inch of oil into a large skillet. Heat over medium-high heat to 350 degrees. Divide the chicken into batches and place in an even layer in hot oil. Fry, turning once for about three minutes on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and let cool for about five minutes. The recipe serves six people.

If you have followed every step correctly, you should have a delicious game time snack for guests, or a nice dinner for your family.

Enjoy!
