Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Dean Kelly

Minister, Highland Home Church of Christ

The foundational fact of our existence is found in the knowledge that God is. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10). Again, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures” (Psalms 111:19). Once more, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7).

Paul spoke to the philosophers in Athens in Acts 17. He spoke to them about the God “Who made the world and everything in it…” (Acts 17:24). He continues, “…though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being…” (Acts 17:27-28).

Without a knowledge of God, we have no true grasp on where we came from.

Without a knowledge of God, we do not understand our true nature.

Without a knowledge of God, we have no basis for hope in life.

Without a knowledge of God, we have no certain standards to guide us.

Without a knowledge of God, we are left afloat in a universe of meaninglessness and despair.

On the other hand, a true knowledge of God will give us hope, knowing where we came from, why we are here, who we are, and where we are going. We will understand that the path to God is through Jesus Christ, and that path is illuminated by His word.

If you are interested in learning more about the God who made it all, and His only begotten Son who gave Himself on the cross for us, please feel free to let me know. We can meet at the cross and come together to listen to His word together.
