The Demopolis Tigers breezed past the visiting Holtville Bulldogs Friday to win the 5A Region 3 title. The Tigers won 32-2 and scored all of their points in the first half of the game.

During the game, there was some unsportsmanlike behavior on the field, mostly from the visiting team, and Head Coach Lance Tucker expressed his pride in how his players handled themselves.

“We showed a lot of character and I am super proud of that. The way our kids conducted themselves and showed a lot of class. They represented Demopolis well,” said Tucker.

Keishawn Rowser put the Tigers on the board with 8:39 in the first quarter when he took it in from 2-yards out. Jose Tellez kicked the PAT to put Demopolis up 7-0 early in the first half.

Antonio Cox scored next on a 5-yard run with 1:38 remaining in the first quarter. Tellez’s extra point kick was blocked, leaving the score at 13-0.

At the beginning of the second quarter, DHS quarterback Kevin McElroy completed a 48-yard pass to Dalyn Jackson to put the Tigers up 19-0. The two-point conversion pass from McElroy to Tellez failed, leaving the score as 19-0.

The only score of the game for Bulldogs was a safety midway through the second quarter that put the score at 19-2.

Antonio Cox got his second touchdown of the night on a 25 yard run with 2:29 left to play in the first half. The two-point conversion failed yet again, making the score 25-2.

Jamarcus Vawters got the final score of the game for either team when he recovered a Holtville fumble and returned it 49-yards for the touchdown with 2:05 in the quarter. Tellez’s extra point kick was good, making the final score of the game 32-2.

This Friday, the Tigers will travel to Greenville to take on the Greenville Tigers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
