With all the terror being bombarded on Israel by Iran- backed Hamas, and the attendant anti-Semitism festering in America today, I want to remind the citizens of Demopolis how deeply we are in debt to the many early Jewish settlers who were fundamental in making our city what it is today.

Although there are none of those Jews still in Demopolis, their old synagogue, the Temple B’nai Jeshurun, was established in 1858 and was maintained until the 1980’s. Today it is a distribution center for those who need food, a continuing testimony to the giving nature of the Jewish community at large.

We must insist that America give its undaunting support to Israel and let our Representative in Congress, Terri Sewell, know how deeply we are committed to Israel and the defense of its nation. Without those Jewish Demopolis settlers, we would not be what we are today.
