Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows has been a staple on our holiday dinner table for as long as I can remember. While my favorite dish will always be my mom’s homemade macaroni and cheese, I like this dish as well. It’s a sweet treat to have and can be served with dinner, but works well as a dessert too.

My mom makes this dish every year and it is always a hit. I know it’s going to be a favorite on our Thanksgiving table, and if you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out. If you have never had this dish before, try making it for your Thanksgiving dinner and see how you like it.

Ingredients

  • Four to five sweet potatoes
  • Four tablespoons of butter
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon of Allspice

Preparation

To prepare this dish, boil peeled sweet potatoes until they are tender. Mash the potatoes with a mixer until smooth and then blend with butter. Then add sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and vanilla. Then add milk to a desired consistency. Pour into a buttered casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until set. Arrange marshmallows over the top, then return the casserole to the oven. Set the oven to broil for one to two minutes to toast the marshmallows. Be sure to keep a close eye on the dish when toasting marshmallows as they can easily burn. Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Bon appetit!
