Five Marengo County football players have been named to the 2023 Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) All-State football teams.

The All-State team came from nominations from statewide coaches to their respective sports writers and was voted on by the ASWA’s prep committee. Players must be nominated by their coaches to be considered.

Demopolis had three players chosen for the All-State teams in senior Dalyn Jackson (6-0, 195), junior Tony Zimmerman (5-9, 268), and junior Keishawn Rowser (6-0, 198). Jackson was chosen for the First-Team All-State on offense, and Zimmerman and Rowser were both chosen for the Second-Team All-State on offense. The three players were part of a Demopolis team that finished the 2023 season with a 10-3 record, a region title, and a third-round playoff appearance.

Linden High School’s Roderick Brown (5-11, 205) was recognized as an athlete. The Patriots finished their 2023 season with a 6-3 record and had a first-round appearance where they took on the Brantley Bulldogs.

On Dec. 27, the ASWA will announce the finalists for Back and Lineman of the Year. The winners, along with the state’s Mr. Football, will be announced on Jan. 16 at a banquet in Montgomery.
