The Marengo County Board of Education announced Marc Alan Tracy as the new principal at Sweet Water High School (SWHS) at its Jan. 25 meeting. Former Sweet Water principal, Gary Gibson, resigned from the position in September 2023. Coach Pat Thompson served as interim principal while the board considered candidates.
Superintendent Luke Hallmark said he is proud of the process the board took in choosing a new principal, and believes Tracy is the right person for the position.
“I am proud of our process. I know there were people in the Sweet Water community who wanted things to go quicker than it has. But I think sometimes when you’re patient and you let things settle, the cream will always rise to the top,” said Hallmark. “With the panel we had, and the process that we used, I think Dr. Tracy was, without a doubt, the best pick of the litter.”
Tracy expressed his thanks for the opportunity to serve as Sweet water’s new principal.
“I really appreciate this opportunity. It’s always been a dream of mine to be a school principal,” said Tracey. “I grew up in northwest Alabama, and the name Sweet Water has always been there. It’s a famous name around the state for various reasons and for all good things. I’m very excited to be a part of that.”
Tracey said he hopes to continue the traditions established at SWHS, and hopes to help build new ones. He looks forward to getting started as soon as he can.
Tracey comes to Sweet water from Pleasant Home School in Andalusia where he has served as the assistant principal since 2021. He is a 2009 graduate of Auburn University and is married with two children.
