Demopolis City Schools Foundation Celebrates 30 Years of Excellence

The Demopolis City Schools Foundation held its annual donor celebration on Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Marengo County History and Archives Museum. This event wasn’t the typical annual event; it was to celebrate 30 years of excellence and to recognize donors for their continued support and contributions over the years.
Foundation President, Peter Michael Reynolds stated, “Over the past 30 years, the DCSF board, and directors, past and present have provided an incredible path to support Demopolis City Schools for years to come, all of that being said, it cannot do anything without the financial support of the generous donors over the past 30 years. Again, we cannot thank our donors enough for their continued support.”
The following individuals, businesses and organizations were recognized as “Long-time Contributors” to the Foundation. These individuals have donated $10,000 or more since 2012.

Dr. Amanda Pendergrass, chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning, Early Childhood program coordinator, and an associate professor of elementary education at the University of West Alabama, was the guest speaker for the evening. She emphasized how important a good school system is and how the Foundation has played a positive role in our schools. She also discussed the direct impact the grants that the Foundation funds have on the students and teachers, which then influence our school system as a whole.
Foundation Executive Director, Margaret Anne Gilchrist stated, “It’s been a great year to celebrate the 30 years of the Foundation and the work we’ve been able to accomplish for all Demopolis classrooms. We could not continue our mission of fostering excellence without the continued support of our donors and the Demopolis community!”
The Demopolis City Schools Foundation is an independent nonprofit established in 1993 to encourage private charitable support of the Demopolis public school system. Governed by a 33- member Board of Directors, the Foundation has provided more than $1,500,000 in classroom grants since its inception.
