Starting to settle in

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I’ve been living here in West Alabama for more than a month now, and I feel like I’m starting to get settled in.

I know I have not had the opportunity to meet everyone yet, but everyone I have come across has been so friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my first opportunity to experience Rooster Day, and I look forward to being able to be a part of other events in the community.

One thing I have noticed so far is that our readers are a huge part of our what we produce each week.

It is impossible for us to attend every event going on, but we are so appreciative of everyone who has submitted photos or information to us so that we can help cover the things you have wanted to see in your newspaper. Your news tips, photos and other assistance really go a long way to making this a great newspaper.

We are also in the process of expanding our staff in Demopolis. While I can’t comment specifically on what we are going to be able to do right now, I am hopeful that you will see the fruits of that behind the scenes work coming to fruition shortly.

One way right now that you can help us out is to nominate businesses for our Best of Marengo contest. This is a great opportunity to show your love and appreciation for the businesses and individuals who have helped make our community great.

We have more than 100 categories open for nominations. It ranges from the best hamburger to the best law enforcement officer to the best teacher or beautician.

Any nominations you can help us with would be greatly appreciated, and I am sure those businesses will appreciate the nominations as well.

Once the nomination process is complete, we will compile your voting ballot, and you will have the opportunity to vote on who is the Best of Marengo. This is an exciting opportunity for us to recognize those who go above and beyond in our community.

Please send in those nominations.

Also, please help us continue the progress we have made with The Demopolis Times in recent weeks. Feel free to touch base with me by emailing brent.maze@demopolistimes.com or calling my direct line at 334-410-1712.
