The Demopolis High Soccer team fell 10-0 to the 1A 2003 runner-up Holy Spirit Catholic High School Titans Friday at the Demopolis Sports Plex.

The Tigers, who are still in the process of building a boys soccer program, struggled with their ability to maintain possession in the mid-field, but put together a solid effort against a solid Titans team.

The Tigers may not have the best record this season at( 0-9), but for head coach Joey Browder there is still plenty to be proud of.

” I have a great deal of respect for these kids,” Browder said. “They have some of the best attitudes that I have seen, not to mention a strong word ethic. They show up to every practice, they work hard and they continue to give everything they can in every game that we play regardless of the score or who we play.”

With only a 12 member squad, in a game that requires 11 to be on the field at all times, and in only their second season of play, the DHS Tigers have overcome obstacles each and every time they take the field, and in doing so, they pave the way for the future of this sport at DHS.

“When you really think about, these kids are the pioneers of this sport at Demopolis High School,” Browder said. “And it’s difficult to do that because there always seems to be more bad than good. But that’s how you learn and grow and I can see that we have already made many vast improvements this season from last season. Each year we’re going to get better and better.”

The Tigers have improved this season, but are still lacking a win. And with only one game to go in the regular season, the Tigers will be focusing their full attention to Wednesday’s match-up with Holtville High School to remedy that dilemma.
