Saturday marks the opening day of the Demopolis Dixie Youth Baseball League. Unlike the major leagues opening day, this one is sure to be held in the United States of America at a reasonable time of day.

The ceremonies are set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Sports Plex with all 24 of this year’s teams participating. Demopolis Mayor Austin Caldwell will throw out the first pitch. Caldwell said that he is excited and honored to be able to throw out the first pitch in this his last opportunity to do so as mayor of Demopolis.

“I’m excited to see the season get started and I’m happy to have the opportunity to do this one last time as mayor of Demopolis,” Caldwell said. “The arm feels good, but I think I might have a better shot of getting the ball to home plate if I just roll it up there.”

First game is between Collins Communications and The Athletes Foot at 10:30 a.m.
