Chris Beeker Jr., chairman of the Greene County Commission, said Tuesday that Sheriff Johnny L. Isaac does not need to wait on a new building for the Pink Palace adult entertainment store to investigate the business for a specialty license.

“I can’t investigate an establishment that’s not there,” Isaac told the commission Tuesday during a work session.

Isaac was asked by county attorney Katie Campbell at the last commission meeting to conduct an investigation into a request by the owners for a specialty license. This investigation would be in conjunction with the investigation the sheriff and the state fire marshal are currently conducting into a Feb. 5 blaze that destroyed the store’s building outside of Boligee.

Guy Birman and Choice Freedoms LLC of New Orleans paid their $500 investigative fee to the county after the blaze, and it has been reported that the owners plan to rebuild if they can obtain the adult license.

Beeker said he couldn’t tell the sheriff how to investigate, but from a look at the bill, which authorizes the specialty license, “they (the owners) are to give him detailed information … what you’re going to sell, what you’re not going to sell.”
