Valentine’s Day has a very special meaning for one local Demopolis resident. For her, today represents chocolates and flowers and the day she married that special someone.

Linda Gandy who works for Sharpe Accounting in Demopolis thinks that Valentine’s Day is the most important day in the year. She said that today is her favorite day by far.

“I love Valentine’s Day and what it stands for,” Gandy said.

Today is very special because it is her 13th wedding anniversary. She said she remembers how she met Alan and it all had to do with a single Valentine’s card.

She moved from Florida to Demopolis with her job back in the early 1980’s. She met Alan for the first time in 1985. Gandy said that she and Alan were friends for about four years, waving to each other and speaking when they met, but had never been out on a date.

“We were very good friends and I really liked him a lot so I wanted to give him something special on Valentine’s Day,” Gandy said.

Gandy remembers buying a Valentine’s card and putting it in his truck. She said he asked me to dinner after he read the letter and he had no idea that I liked him.

“I didn’t think that card would lead to us getting married, but it is still a cute story,” Gandy said.

After dating Alan most of 1989, he asked Linda to marry him shortly after that. When we got engaged in 1990, he asked me when if there was a certain day I wanted to get married on and I said, “How about on Valentine’s Day?”

Alan agreed that Valentine’s Day would make an excellent choice since that one little card made all the difference.

Gandy said, “We were married on Valentine’s Day in 1991.”

Gandy knows in her heart that Alan was her miracle. She said he is the “best thing to ever happen to my family and me. It has been a great 13 years of marriage and I look forward to many more with him,” she said.

“He is a miracle to me and to my children,” Gandy said.

As for the prompting card? Linda still has it, all these years later.
