GREENSBORO – A Sawyerville man was arrested Tuesday for the home invasion robbery and abduction of a couple who live on County Road 21 west of Greensboro.

Michael Evans, 34, of 1712 Carnation Road in Sawyerville, was arrested and charged with kidnapping first-degree, robbery first-degree, criminal mischief and burglary first-degree.

The suspect allegedly went to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Warren, knocked on the door and tried to get them to open the door, said Hale County Sheriff Larry Johnson.

“They wouldn’t open the door so he kicked the door in,” Johnson said. “He went in the house, scared the family and got some money (reportedly $1,600) from Mr. and Mrs. Warren – made them write him a check.”

According to Johnson, Evans forced the couple to ride with him in their vehicle to Peoples Bank in Greensboro.

He was arrested Tuesday at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the bank attempting to cash the check written by the victims.

According to the incident report, Evans also made a verbal threat against the couple in the presence of law enforcement officers.
