UWA baseball team 2-1 against Southern Arkansas

LIVINGSTON, AL- After defeating No. 21 Southern Arkansas (1-2) twice on Saturday, the Tigers fell 2-1 to the Muleriders on Sunday at Tartt Field. Freshman Ryne Lawson pitched 7.1 strong innings for West Alabama, allowing four hits and one earned run in the loss for the Tigers.

West Alabama was able to out hit Southern Arkansas by a margin of six to four, but the Tigers left twelve runners on base and committed two errors in the game. The game was tied at 1-1 in the eighth inning before the Muleriders were able to convert a Tiger throwing error into a run.

Senior A.J. Ray led the Tigers offensively with two hits and a stolen base. Brandon McGarity drove in UWA’s lone run with a single in the sixth inning. Brandon Boles doubled for his sixth hit of the series while also stealing two bases. Also picking up hits for the Tigers were Seth Lofton and Randal Minton. Justin Maddox came in and pitched 1.2 hitless innings for UWA in relief of Lawson.

Shortstop Armando Alvarez had two hits on the day for the Muleriders. Bobby Beeson and Ross Boudreaux also had singles for Southern Arkansas, while teammate Aharon Eggleston had an RBI. Dustin Eisenbraun picked up the win for Southern Arkansas, pitching three innings and allowing no runs and no hits.

The Tigers (2-1) return to action on Saturday when they host Columbus State for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
