HARROGATE, TN- Despite shooting a mere 32.1 percent from the field for the game, West Alabama was able to force 24 Lincoln Memorial (11-3, 0-1 GSC) turnovers as the Tigers got off to a 1-0 start in conference play, defeating the Lady Railsplitters 56-49 on Saturday night.

The Tigers only made 8-of-28 field goals in the first half of play, but trailed LMU by a mere two points 23-21 at the half. West Alabama elevated its shooting to 36 percent in the second frame and made 16-of-24 free throws on their way to victory.

Tausha Evans led the way, scoring 12 points, including 7-of-8 from the free throw line to go along with three assists and two steals. Margo Porter and Veronica Lee added nine points each, while Yolanda Thomas contributed five points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Madeline Richards and Chasity Williams paced LMU with 11 points apiece. Stephanie Clinton added 10 points, while teammate Hillary Ross scored nine points to go along with 10 rebounds.

West Alabama moves to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in GSC play. The Tigers return to action on Monday when they travel to West Georgia for a 4:30 p.m. tip off.
