The Demopolis Beautification Commission, in conjunction with the city of Demopolis and other businesses will hold Renew Our City on April 9-12.

Renew Our City’s goal is to help beautify the city of Demopolis with residents working together to clean up around their homes and neighborhoods. The city will provide means for residents to dispose of items that are no longer of any value to them. Dumpsters will be located on West Capitol Street, next to the Alabama Power Company office downtown.

Diane Brooker, the chairman of the Demopolis Beautification Commission, said the event is an effort to bring pride to Demopolis.

“The Renew Our City event is an effort to put pride and the spirit of giving back into our community,” she said. “We ask that all businesses show pride by spring cleaning their place of business – not just their property, but to take the cleaning a little farther – into the streets, gutters and ditches.”

Demopolis Public Works will be providing curbside service for elderly and those who do not have the means to bring items to the location on April 9-12. Public Works Superintendent Mike Baker asks that if this is the case, for people to call Public Works at (334) 289-3879 or Baker at (334) 341-1082 to schedule a pickup time. This will help Public Works in picking up the items more efficiently.

Volunteers for Renew Our City will meet at the public square in Demopolis at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 12. Trash bags can be picked up at city hall and at Alabama Power.

Any clubs that are interested in helping Saturday can call Kim at city hall at (334) 289-0577.
