Carl Emerson Edwards

Carl Emerson Edwards, 90, of Demopolis, died Sunday, September 21, 2003, at Tallahutta Springs in Thomasville.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at the Kidd-Robbins Chapel with Rev. Mickey Green officiating. The body will lie in state one hour before the service.

Burial was held in Demopolis Memorial Gardens udner the direction of Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors.

Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Edwards.

He is survived by three daughters, Janice L. Dedeck of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Carolyn Joyce Edwards and Judy A. Edwards of Demopolis; a son, Carl J. (Linda) Edwards of Thomasville; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Shelley Carole Powers, 38, of Memphis, Tenn., died Wednesday, September 17, 2003, in Memphis.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at Demopolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jimmy R. O’Bryant officiating and under the direction of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden.

She was born October 21, 1964 in Atlanta, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bassel E. Powers Jr.; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B.E. Powers and Mr. and Mrs. George M. Hannah.

She is survived by her mother, Judi Carle of Demopolis; step-father, Cecil E. Carle of Demopolis; a sister, Karen Stewart of Linden; two uncles, Lloyd (Janelle) Hannah and Jerry (Patricia) Hannah, both of Demopolis; a nephew, Matt Stewart of Linden; and a niece, Mandy Stewart of Fort Payne.

Edwin Keaton Thornhill Sr.

Dayton

Edwin Keaton Thornhill Sr., 68, of Dayton, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, at his son’s home in Demopolis.

Services were held Sunday, September 21, 2003, at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden with Rev. Stuart Pope officiating.

Burial was held in the Dayton Cemetery under the direction of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home.

He was born October 25, 1934 in Selma. Mr. Thornhill was a merchant/grocery store owner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Durden Thornhill; his father, J.C. Lee Thornhill Sr.; his mother, Maybelle Keaton Thornhill; and his brother, Vincent Thornhill.

He is survived by three sons, Edwin Keaton (Anita) Thornhill Jr. of Demopolis, Glen Thornhill of Linden, and Bryant (Becky) Thornhill of Miller, Ala.; three daughters, Ginny Long of Demopolis, Lynda Edwards of Linden and Diana (Brooks) Thomas of Franklin, Tenn.; and a brother, J.C. Lee Thornhill Jr. of Linden; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wynn Thornhill, Josh Thornhill, J.C. Etheridge, Dan Gunter, Randy Parker, Charleston Wilson, Keith Thornhill and Christian Cook.

Honorary pallbearers were Fred Duke, Charles Shields, Al Moseley, Leonard Moseley, Rick Moseley, Ken Moseley, Boozer Wilkinson, Fred Brown, Tommy Miller, Alan Judd and Courtney Judd.

Robbie Dale Holman, 41, of Cottondale, died Saturday, September 20, 2003, at the Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

Services were held Monday, September 22, 2003, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Walker officiating.

Burial was held in Demopolis Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors.

Mr. Holman was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Corley Shaw.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa C. Holman of Cottondale; three sisters, Wanda H. (Jim) Dye of Leeds, Ala., Chere H. (Danny) Dobbs of Demopolis, and Michelle H. (David) Huckabee of Linden; two brothers, Mark Holman of Birmingham and Skibo (Kristi) Holman of Demopolis; father, Gary (Joanne) Holman of Demopolis; grandparents, Marguirette Corley of Gallion and T.W. Walker of Cedar Cove, Ala.; three nieces, Jami Wright, Jocelyn Dre and Josie Holman; and three nephews, Russell Copeland, Kyle Adams and Kase Adams.

Pallbearers were Rick McManus, Chad Butler, Robbie Wilkerson, Bob Tanner, Raymond Wright and Rick Adams.

Honorary pallbearers were the Mercedes Benz Option Cladding Line, the Brookwood Medical Center Cardiovascular ICC Unit, Dr. Mark Ricketts, Dr. Michael Howan and Dr. John Casterline.

Martha Patterson Barnes, 75, of Demopolis, died Saturday, September 20, 2003, at her residence.

Services were held Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Art Luckie officiating.

Burial was held in Demopolis Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Cotillion Club – Book Club Bridge and a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Barnes.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Barnes (Bill) Partridge of Sarasota, Fla.; two sons, John C. Barnes of Demopolis and Michael O. (Sue) Barnes of Demopolis; grandchildren, Thad Partridge, Kameron Partridge, Mandi Barnes, Brittany Barnes and Molly Barnes.

Pallbearers were Buddy Jones, James Carpenter, Curtis Taylor, John Perkins Jr., John E. Barnes and Jimmy Yelverton.
