James Smyly

James Payton Smyly, age 78, of Linden passed away on July 1, 2010, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.
He was a native of Linden and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Smyly of Linden; three daughters, Cheryl Smyly (Steve) Miller of Grensboro, Cam Smyly of Linden and Pat Smyly (Billy) Pritchett of Linden; two sons, James Payton (Tammy) Smyly of Myrtlewood and Craig (Susan) Smyly of Linden; a sister, Earline Copeland of Selma; a brother, Ruben James (Beulah) Smyly of Thomasville; and nine grandchildren, Jerry (Anna) Smyly, Michelle Pritchett, Matt Pritchett, Chase Smyly and Brooke Smyly, all of Linden, Amber Miller, Lauren Miller and Stevie Miller, all of Greensboro, and Lindsey Miller of Charlotte, N.C.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 3, at 3 p.m. at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Walley officiating. Burial was at Linden Memorial Park. O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Linden directed the services.
Active pallbearers were Chase Smyly, Matt Pritchett, Jerry Smyly, Mark Henson, Hall Cannon and Todd Gunter. Honorary pallbearers were Odell Vice, Ralph Langley, Rod Langley, Billy Sheffield, Kenneth “Pete” Bedsole, John Payne Thomas, J.L. Hudgens, W.J. Cannon and Ralph Etheridge.
