Charles Milton Whitfield, Sr.

Charles Milton Whitfield Sr., a resident of Prattville diead peacefully Jan. 4 at his home. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. at Prattville Memorial Chapel. Visitation was one hour prior to service with Pastor Bruce Hose and Pastor Mike Denning officiating. Interment followed at Havana Methodist Cemetery on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steve Vernon and Pastor Bruce Hose officiating and Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Charles was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He was born April 10, 1931 in Havana, Ala. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Dorothy C. Whitfield and children and grandchildren Karen W. (Paul) Bonds, Taylor Bonds, Rebekah Bonds, Charles “Chuck” (Janis) Whitfield Jr. and Ethan Whitfield. He was preceded in death by his parents MIlton Whitfield and Louise Ryan Whitfield; grandparents Rufus and Cora Dean Stokes Whitfield and sisters Mary Payne and Norma Martin. He is survived by sisters Margie Holladay of Moundville, Rebecca Jockisch of Greensboro, Sue Whaley (Fred) of Greensboro, Pat Hill of Greensboro, Jean Westbrooks (Leon) of Monroeville, brothers Wayne Whitfield of Greensboro, John Whitfield (Faye) of Winfield, Don Whitfield of Eutaw, Danny Whitfield of Northport and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of Glynwood Baptist Church of Prattville. Charles served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve from Oct. 1953 to April 1962 with a rank of Sgt. First Class. He held jobs as a salesman and truck driver. His last job was with the Hale County Highway Department. Serving as pallbearers were his nephews and great nephew; Kevin Jockisch, James Jockisch, Steve Mitchell, Darryl Mitchell, Dave Mitchell, Joel Mitchell, Keith Westbrooks, Barry Westbrooks, Billy Holladay, Eric Averette, Shannon Averette, Wallace Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Heath Mitchell, Chase Mitchell, Andrew Dane Mitchell, Mike Whaley and Mark Whaley. Honorary pallbearers were the men’s Sunday school class at Greensboro Baptist Church, Dr. Lucius Freeman, Bill Casey, Arthur Hunt, Mayfield Richards, Ed Avery, Frederick Thomas, Ellis Thomas, Lloyd Arrington, Virgil Johnson and Paul Hoggle.
