On Wednesday, June 15, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host a public listening session in Uniontown for community members to discuss opinions and issues concerning the Arrowhead Landfill.

EPA Region 4 Administrator, Gwen Keyes Fleming and her staff will be on-hand from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to address ongoing concern regarding coal ash that has been shipped to the facility for more than a year.

“EPA received several comments last year from Uniontown residents about Coal Ash shipments affiliated with the Arrowhead Landfill,” said EPA spokesman James Pinkney. “On March 6-7, EPA Region 4’s Chief Of Staff, Javonne Hicks-White and staff held a pre-planning period with Uniontown community leaders on the best way to implement a community listening session. As a result, EPA will serve as a listening ear to the community’s concerns.”

The session will be held at Uniontown Elementary School at 425 West Ave., Uniontown – near Old Thomaston Road.

Participants will have an opportunity to sign-in and choose whether to voice concerns publically by microphone or privately in writing. There are a total of 25 slots for microphone questions with a time frame of three minutes per person totaling 75 minutes of discussion for the community.

Preference will be given to Perry County residents but others in the area impacted by the landfill are welcome to participate.
