Daisy Eugenia McManus Gunter, 93, of Linden died Aug. 20 at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Born April 27, 1918 in Marengo County to the late Jack and Betty McGee McManus, she was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mayo James Gunter, sons Kenneth Gunter and Sanford Gunter, sisters Beatrice Stringfellow and Evelyn Braswell and brother Harding McManus.

She is survived by her daughter Audrey (Richard) Barnes of Dacula, Ga., sons James (Erma) Gunter of Tuscaloosa and Gerald (Nancy) Gunter of Lawrenceville, sistes Grace Phillips of Milton, Fla. and Peggy Sheffield of Saraland, brother Ivan (Etta) McManus of Thomasville, grandchildren Kenneth Gunter Jr., Scott Gunter, Todd Gunter, Leigh Godfrey, Lori Lang, Sheila Hollaway, Renee’ Osmer, Gail Gunter, Todd Barnes and Lynne Gunter, who is one of God’s sweet little angels, as well as 18 great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren.

Active Pallbearers include Randy Sanders, Rick Ward, Mike Emmons, Frank Aydelott, Quillie Murray and Mike Peppenhorst.

Honorary Pallbearers include Ralph Etheridge, Leon Gibbs, Leon Glass and Delaney Aydelott.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. at Linden Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Linden Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday night from 6 to 8 and also Thursday at the church one hour prior to service.

The Rev. Randy Creel will be officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel will be directing.

Miss Daisy, as she was known to everyone, was a caring person who celebrated life to the fullest in her 93 years on this earth. She will be remembered for her warm and friendly smile that met no stranger, her quick wit that kept us all on our toes, and a heart filled with abundant love for her family, friends and a place called “Linden.”

Daisy believed in Jesus Christ and, as the time drew near, she told Jesus and her family members she was “ready to go on.”

She looked up with eyes wide open and said, “Do you hear that? They’re playing ‘Precious Memories.’ and ‘When We All Get to Heaven.’”
