Funeral Services were held Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Gallion, Alabama. Elder Albert F. Robinson officiant. Sis. Burnette Richardson, Mistress of Ceremony. Interment followed in Coleman Cemetery, Gallion, Alabama. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements. His father, James Bates, Sr., and brother, James Bates, Jr. preceded him in death. Survivors include a loving and devoted mother, Annie S. Bates, Gallion, AL; a loving daughter, Ashley Bates of Linden, AL; five stepchildren, DeOslin, Justin, Randall, Paul, and Jasmine. Survivors include two sisters, Tabitha (Jake) Winter, Gallion, AL, and Lula Lewis of Lansing, MI; four brothers, Jerome (Kim) Phillips, Sweet Water, AL, Rick (Helen) B ates, Gallion, AL, Rensy Bates, Buffalo, N.Y. and Carlos Bates, Clearwater, FL; two aunties, Judy Jones, Dover, DE., Loretta M. Stewart, Gallion, AL; three uncles, Louis Bates, Cleveland, OH, William (Loretta) Stewart and George (Debra) Stewart, Lansing, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
