DPD rules homicide in mans death

DEMOPOLIS &8212; Police have ruled the weekend death of a Demopolis man as the first homicide since December of 2005 for the city.

Public Safety Director Jeff Manuel said Tuesday morning his department is still investigating the case and have not developed any suspects thus far, nor have any arrests been made in the case.

Randy Douglas Warren, 37, of 507 North Ash St., was found shot to death at his residence Saturday morning. Police responded at approximately 11:30 a.m. to the residence where Warren was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said it is believed the shooting

occurred sometime during the night Friday.

Manuel said there were signs of forced entry at the scene.

Warren&8217;s remains were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics Sciences for an autopsy.

Police remain in the process of gathering information and are encouraging residents with information to contact the police department.

Randy Warren&8217;s sister, Katie, described her brother as a kind and loveable person who loved basketball.

Randy Warren, a maintenance and construction worker for apartment complexes in the Demopolis area moved to the city approximately one year ago, Katie Warren said.

He was a native of Greensboro where he was a basketball standout, playing for Greensboro East and later for Concordia in Selma.

His mother, Louise Warren, two brothers and one sister precede him in death.

He is survived by five children, four boys and one daughter, his father, Roy Warren of Greensboro, seven sisters and five brothers.

His body will lie in state from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Washington&Paige Mortuary in Greensboro. An additional viewing is set for 11 a.m., Saturday at Union Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services are set for 12 p.m. Saturday at Union Grove Baptist Church.
