Political signs on the city’s right-of-way were discussed during Thursday’s Demopolis City Council meeting.

Councilman Mitchell Congress said he’s concerned signs for some candidates are being removed from the right-of-way but not those belonging to others.

“My concern is that some signs are being picked up in the right-of-way,” Congress said. “I would like to see the sign ordinance enforced in an unilateral fashion.”

Mayor Mike Grayson told him city workers are enforcing the policy the same for everyone.

“Yes, it’s being enforced. Everyone feels the same pain on that,” Grayson said.

In other business, the council took the following actions:

•Voted to move the council’s second September meeting to Monday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m.

•Grayson announced that Alabama State Rep. A.J. McCampbell recently presented the city with a $2,000 check to be spent as best needed.

•The council also amended this year’s budget to account for grant money to pay for police department overtime for traffic safety.
